Illinois Government Officials Announce Reforms to the State’s Criminal Justice System

Governor JB Pritzker along with Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton announced three key reforms to the state’s criminal justice system over the next few years. The two leaders have a vision of reforming the low-level drug crime sentences while focusing on substance abuse treatment programs and shortening long prison terms with the use of good time credit and broaden the opportunities for supervised release. The goal of these reforms is to improve public safety and health outcomes in areas that have suffered an impact in dis- proportional way.
