Missing Hunter Found in Pemiscot County

A missing hunter is recovering after being found with a head injury. Police say on Dec. 28, around 6:44 p.m., Michael Hawks Sr., 58, was reported missing after he had been hunting and had not returned home. Deputies, and the Caruthersville Police Department, and a solo conservation agent, started a ground search and river search on Black Island and the Mississippi River just north of Caruthersville. Around 9:10 p.m., Hawks boat was found on shore around the 14 bend area. He was located on land a short distance from his boat. He had suffered a severe head injury. Crews placed Hawks in a rescue boat and transported him to a waiting ambulance. He is currently recovering in a Memphis Hospital and is in serious condition. The investigation is ongoing.
