Grant Awarded to Senior Citizens Agency in Dexter to Address Food Insecurity

The Missouri Department of Agriculture has awarded grants for twelve projects throughout the state to address the major issue of food insecurity within state boarders. Through the Food Desert Agriculture Matching Grant Program the Senior Citizens Agency of Stoddard County in Dexter will get the funding they need to buy a walk -in freezer.  The freezer will allow the agency to build up their food storage. The Stoddard County Senior Citizens Agency was the lone organization within the region to receive the grant. The purpose of the grants being awarded is to assist in funding projects that address food insecurity within food deserts in rural and urban areas. Officials say food insecurity is an issue facing citizens all across Missouri, including one in every five children. Projects must be complete by May 1, 2020.
