FEMA Reminding Citizens to purchase Flood Insurance

FEMA officials are reminding Missouri residents that now is the time to buy flood insurance before the spring season begins. Officials believe that flooding may be concerning next spring as well. Over 1,750 claims were filed by flood insurance policyholders from damage that began in March. Officials say the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) paid over $68.7 million in flood insurance claims to citizen’s across the state. Despite the high numbers the total number of NFIP polices throughout the state has decreased by 1.4% since March of last year from 20,327 to 20,041. FEMA wants to make citizens aware that the majority of home, business and rental insurance do not pay for flood damage.
