New Bids for Center Junction Project Proposed

New bids from different construction companies were submitted on Friday for the Center Junction project between Cape Girardeau and Jackson. If the project is approved it will take place between at Highway 61 and Interstate 55. The project was rebid after the first bids came at a higher price than expected at $18 million. The diverging diamond project was changed a little in an attempt to save money.  The lowest bid that was received on Friday was from Penzel Construction. The bid was just under 17.5 million. The highest bid was submitted from Millstone Weber, LLC  at $20,910,525.20 the project would have an effect between Cape Girardeau and Jackson as lanes will be closed to accommodate it. MODOT officials say they will meet on January 9 in Jefferson City to decide if they will proceed at this cost.
