Governor Pritzger Sighs New Law to Improve Diversity in State Employment

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed the ‘Illinois Works’ legislation on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019. The governor signed the legislation in the aftermath of the state starting a $45 million capital program. The goal of the program is to improve a pillar of Rebuild Illinois. Officials said, he Illinois Works Jobs Program will help residents from all communities benefit from capital projects as well as give them access to careers in construction and other building trades. The bill being signed into law invests a total of $25 million investment and works on behalf of community organizations’ statewide to get new workers to help construct projects across the state. Officials also say, it will also set strong apprentice participation goals of 10 percent on public works projects.
