The design plan for the brand new Cape Girardeau VA Health Care Center was started during meeting that took place on Thursday and Friday. The new building will have eight primary care teams that include lab and radiology, eye and audiology clinics, pharmacy and many specialty care services and procedures. Johnson Development, LLC will have the task of building the new facility. The new clinic will be constructed at at 711 S. Mt. Auburn Road, on Interstate 55, next to Southeast Health. Officials say there will be a groundbreaking ceremony in the spring to celebrate the project formally moving forward. The new building is expected to be completed in 2022. Officials believe more veterans will receive medical care by building a new facility in Cape Girardeau. Their goal is to get over 3,000 patients who served in the military in the next couple of years before the doors are opened in 2022.
