The Cape Girardeau City Council gave their approval to a special use permit on Monday night so construction can begin on an electrical substation in town. The electrical substation will be constructed at the intersection of West Cape Rock Drive and Lexington Avenue .The substation will cover an area that is 76 by 88 feet and the equipment that is inside the substation will be surrounded by a an eight foot fence. The substation will also have landscaping surrounding it with a 76 foot driveway to West Cape Park Drive made of concrete. On November 13, 2019 the Z planning and zoning committee gave their approval to a request for a special use permit to build on a property that was undeveloped. The property is currently zoned as an R-4 medium density which is multifamily residential.
