CIT Members Striving to Assist Access for Mental Health Response

Area law enforcement officials mainly have limited options when it concerns assisting people with a mental health issue. Officials say, right now the options are leaving them alone which is generally not a good option, going to their jails but, when they’re criminalizing them or going to local emergency rooms, which is generally not designed for this., Representatives from the Missouri Crisis Intervention Team came to Cape Girardeau on Wednesday as part of the 2019 Behavioral Health and Economic Intervention forum. Officials say, the goal of the forum was to promote crisis intervention training and the work they’re doing in their communities to show the collaboration of not only law enforcement, but also behavioral health community and other community partners that come together.
