Students Miss Third Day of School on Monday Due to Strike

Several Thousands of students, who attended school in the Murphysboro School District, were unable to attend school because of the first teachers strike in more than 30 years.  Both sides say they want to return students to school as soon as possible. The strike began on October 3, 2019 after the Teachers Association and MEA officials were unable to come to terms on a new contract after the current contract expired in August. Officials say the current holdup amounts to $385,692, between what they are seeking in raises and what the Board of Education is offering.
