Three Design Teams Submit Design Plans for New City Hall

Three different design teams have purposed various designs to transform the Common Pleas Courthouse and annex in to a brand new city hall for the city. The budget for the project totals $12 million to renovate both historic structures and link both of them together on a total of 4.56 acres. Tuesday was the last day that design teams could submit their ideas. City officials received proposals from the following companies Penzel Construction,TreanHL, and  Keifner Brothers/Chiodeni  City Officials welcome the three designs proposals , saying it’s a unique project requires an experienced design-build team  experienced in constructing municipal  buildings. City officials also say, the new city hall should be handicapped accessible and provide better security for employees and the public.  Members of the Cape Girardeau City Committee members will evaluate all three submissions. Because there are only three design plans to chose from, city officials say, expect that all three design teams will be interviewed at the end of the week. City officials will negotiate a building contract with the highest ranking firm. City officials say, the goal is to  select a team by October 28, 2019 and make a recommendation to the city council by November 4, 2019. The funds for the project will be issued through the Capital Improvement Tax for a total of $6 million passed by voters in August An additional $6 million will come from casino revenue.
