Illinois Denied Disaster Relief from FEMA

Last week FEMA officials denied a request by Illinois State Officials for federal assistance for individuals and businesses in over 20 Counties that were affected by major flooding this past spring, now that the state has been denied counties affected are sitting and waiting. Last month state officials submitted a request for two types of assistance. The first type of assistance would assist residents and businesses. The second type would reimburse local governments.  Over the spring and summer the state received nearly $70 million in flood-related damages. Almost $8 million was from loses of citizens belongings. Flood waters went down over a month ago, but sandbags still are in the streets in East Cape Girardeau, and in other areas vegetation is uprooted. Local governments and non-profits approved for FEMA funding have a deadline of October 19, 2019 to submit the paperwork needed to be eligible for FEMA Assistance.
