The Carbondale Education Association (CEA) has come to an agreement with the Carbondale Board of Education to avoid a strike. The two sides came to an agreement on Tuesday night. Details of the tentative agreement are not available at this time because the two sides haven’t voted on it. The CEA filed an intention to strike notice with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board (IELRB) on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019. CEA currently represents 136 teachers, social workers and other licensed professionals in Carbondale District 95. The notice would have allowed the CEA members to legally strike on Friday, Oct. 4, 2019. CEAA officials said, the issues on the bargaining table were student safety and a competitive salary. District 95 serves 1,536 students. The Board of Education could vote on the tentative agreement at its next meeting on Oct. 24, 2019.
