The next election for a seat in the Cape Girardeau city council will take place on April 7, 2019. Beginning next week but the filing that leads to candidate filing of three vacant seats will begin. The vacant ward seats are seats 3, 4, and 5. Officials say, Perspective candidates can pick up nominating petitions starting Monday in the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall. Candidates who are running to be eligible to vote at be at least 21 years old and be Cape Girardeau residents for a minimum of two years. They also have to be residents of the ward they are running for a minimum of 90 days to file a nominating pretention. The filing period starts on October 22, 2019, and concludes on November 19, 2019. If two or more candidates file for a seat within the City Council there will be a primary election on February 4, 2019. The following candidates represent the wards. City Councilman Nate Thomas Represents Ward 3, Councilman Robbie Guard Represents Ward 4, and and Councilmen Ryan Essax Represents ward 5.
