Southeast Missouri State received recognition as the 78th best regional university in the Midwest out of 100 regional universities in the region. The rankings were released by .U.S. News and World Report. To be considered a Regional University a university must offer a variety of undergraduate majors along with masters’ degrees. There was only one public university within the state that ranked higher than SEMO. In addition the report ranked SEMO as the16th best public school among Midwestern Regional Universities. SEMO was the seconded highest ranked university in the state in this category. SEMO also ranks number 31 in reference to social mobility among Regional Midwestern universities Southeast was ranked the top institution in this category throughout the state. This ranking is in regards to university’s being able to advance social mobility by both accepting and graduating large numbers of under privileged students, who have been awarded pell grants. University officials say, success is the University’s top priority.
