Municipalities Have Different opinions on Whether to Legalize Marijuana Sales in Their Town

Starting in January it will be legal to use recreational marijuana within the state boundaries of Illinois. Many cities across the region are making plans for the next colander year, the cities of Marion and Mt. Vernon got a jumpstart on the decisions of city officials. On Monday, the city of Marion’s City Council voted 4-1 to forbid the use of dispensaries that sell recreational marijuana in the city, but city officials in Mount Vernon voted to have recreational marijuana businesses within the city. Mount Vernon City officials say, the city is on board. They say, you have two choices opt-in or opt-out. We opted in.  Governor J.B. Pritzker legalized marijuana in the state of Illinois in June. This caused city officials to enforce their laws before the law becomes official on New Year’s Day 2020.
