City Leaders in Carbondale Overwhelmingly Vote to Repeal City Ordinance

City leaders in Carbondale repealed a controversial panhandling ordinance in the aftermath of a threat of being sued. City officials designed the plan as a target for panhandlers, who bully citizens. Groups of different people have opposed the ordinance. Various groups of people say it bans things that are already illegal and appears to solely target homeless people. Back in 2018 city leaders received a letter from the American Civil Liberties Union, claiming the ordinance was unconstitutional. On Tuesday,  many city leaders voted overwhelmingly to have the ordinance removed.
