MODOT Wanting to Move Ahead With Center Junction Project

Even though there are a growing number of concerns from residents and businesses., Missouri Department of Transportation officials will move ahead with their construction plan that will keep traffic flow on highway 61 between Cape Girardeau and Jackson, while closing off traffic for a period of seven months next year to every I- 55 ramp that is north of Center Junction. SEMPO officials voted in a landslide on Wednesday in favor of the resolution. The construction of the project will include replacements of the 600 foot bridges at the 99 exit to include shorter spans and constructing a diverging diamond interchange along Highway 61 MODOT officials expect to complete their plans for the project in October. Bids are supposed to open in December and the construction contract could be awarded at the first of the year.
