City of Carbondale to Receive $75,000 in Connection with Bike Project

A grant that was worth a total of 2.6 million was awarded to a total of 16 different bike projects throughout the state of Illinois. One of the projects was in Carbondale, and the project will get a total of $75,000 for a 1.24-mile corridor along an old railroad bed, from New Era Road to Ill. Route 13. The trail will connect with Northwest Trail, which is right next to it. City officials say, they are taking baby steps and working in segments to get this project done. “These grant funds help us complete our first step, which is securing the land we need to construct this final bike pedestrian path leg, Officials with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources the money will help communities acquire, develop and improve bike path facilities throughout the state.
