Mississippi River Continues to Sit Above Flood Stage in Cape Girardeau

The Mississippi River in Cape Girardeau has now been above flood stage for 140 consecutive days. The river has been at or above flood stage since March 13, 2019. Before this year the longest the river had ever been above flood stage was 125 consecutive days back in 1993. The National Weather Service says the river will fall below flood stage by Saturday evening. As of Tuesday afternoon the river stood at 33.2 feet. City officials say, once the river drops below 31.9 feet the river will be below flood stage.
