Cape Girardeau Officials Asking Voters to Renew Capital Improvement Sales Tax

State elections in Missouri will be held in just over two weeks. In the Cape Girardeau area there is a solo initiative on the ballot. City officials are asking voters to vote on approving an extension on the capital improvements sales tax that’s been in place for 25 years. Officials say, the majority of the money from the sales tax would go to fund water improvement systems. If the tax is approved 14%  of it would go towards moving city hall where the common pleas courthouse and annex building. An addition 10% of the sales tax would be used for various airport improvements. The remaining 19% of the tax would be put towards street repairs. The tax would be put in place until 2034 if voters approve it.
