MODOT officials Changing Plans For Center Junction Project

Officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation plan to continue the flow of traffic, while repairing the Center Junction between Cape Girardeau and Jackson. MODOT officials held a meeting with both Cape Girardeau and Jackson City leaders.  A few weeks ago MODOT confirmed they would close the area of highway for over seven months next spring. City leaders of both cities were not in favor of the idea. MODOT officials wanted to close the area during construction to repair the area of roadway at a cheaper price.  Now MODOT officials are considering leaving a single lane open to motorists in both directions. The project consists of building a diverging diamond interchange. This would change patterns of traffic to take away left turns. MODOT Construction crews will also construct one phase of Interstate 55 at a time.
