Starting Tuesday, The Cape Girardeau Police Department Will Infore Laws In Conjunction With Campaign.

l On Tuesday, July 9th, starting at 1200 hours, the Cape Girardeau Police Department Traffic Division, in conjunction with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, will be enforcing traffic violations along the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 55. The primary scope of this operation will be to focus upon the “Move Over or Get Pulled Over” campaign. This campaign was created to draw attention to Missouri’s law, which requires drivers who encounter a stopped emergency service vehicle to “move over” and proceed with caution in the following ways:Proceed with caution and yield the right-of-way, if possible, with due regard to safety and traffic conditions by moving into a lane that is not adjacent to the stopped emergency vehicle while on a roadway with at least four lanes, at least two of which are in the motorist’s direction of travel. If a lane change is not possible, motorists must proceed with due caution and reduce their speed, maintaining a safe speed for traffic conditions. The goal of this campaign is to bring awareness to this Missouri Law and effectively aid in keeping motorists and Emergency workers safe.
