There were reported 12 traffic deaths and three drowning incidents in the state over the Fourth of July weekend. There were a dozen traffic crashes that were reported and two of the crashes happened in the heartland on Saturday. On Saturday, an 11 year-old child died when the vehicle he was riding in ran off the road hit an embankment and overturned before coming to a stop in the median. The crash happened in Perry County on Interstate 55 South of Route M. The driver and five other passengers were also injured. The other crash in the heartland happened in Dunklin County.
