A Murphysboro man is facing several charges after he allegedly fired a gun at an officer in a booking room at the Carbondale Police Department. The man was identified as 36 year-old Eric Brown. He was taken into custody on Saturday, after a theft and battery complaint at the Rue 21 store. He was taken to the Carbondale Police Department for jail processing. While Brown was in the processing area, police say, Brown pulled out a concealed firearm and shot at an officer. The officer fled to safety and Brown remained in the processing area. Police said, a Department Crisis Negotiator, with the assistance of the Illinois State Police, negotiated with Brown who was barricaded in the processing area. Brown eventually gave up the firearm and was transported to the Jackson County Jail. No one was injured in the incident. He was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of weapons, aggravated assault, among other charges. Police say, the investigation is ongoing.
