Police Arrest One Suspect After Investigating Two Shootings in Carbondale

Police were called to two shootings near the 400 block of East Chestnut Street on Monday, May 6, 2019. Police say, at 6:10 p.m. they received a call about a gunshot victim at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. During the investigation, police learned the victim suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound while in the 400 block of East Chestnut Street. They say he claimed he was shot by a man and described him as 6-feet, 2-inches to 6-feet, 3-inches tall and wearing dark clothes. Police say, they were also investigating a separate incident about a man reportedly with a gun at an apartment complex in the 700 block of South Lewis Lane. 29 year-old Phillip Howard was taken into custody for unlawful possession of firearm ammunition by a felon. Police say, two firearms were also found. Police say another gunshot victim was dropped off at the hospital, also with a non-life threatening gunshot wound at 8:15.p.m.  The shooting occurred on East Ashley Street, near East Chestnut Street. The Investigation is ongoing.
