Carbondale Man Sentenced for Possessing A Weapon As A Felon

A Carbondale Illinois man has been sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections for his role for an offense that occurred in February of this year. The suspect was identified as 22 year-old Jonquel M. Gaston. He will have to serve jail time for the offense of unlawful possession of weapons by a felon. Officials say, on February 2, 2019  Carbondale police officers saw Gaston, who was known to have an active arrest warrant, in the 500 block of East Main Street. Gaston was arrested on the warrant without incident. Police say, they searched the suspect and found a loaded .380 caliber handgun in his pocket. On Tuesday the suspect pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful possession of weapons by a felon, a Class 3 Felony.  He will serve two years in the Department of Corrections. In addition to his prison term he will have to serve one year of mandatory supervised release
