Cape Girardeau Man Pleads Guilty To His Role in 2015 Murder

A Cape Girardeau man, who is connected to a 2015 shooting death of a man, preempted his upcoming murder trial because he pleaded guilty to a less significant charge with the crime. The suspect was identified as 51 year-old Michael D. Burkman. The suspect pleaded to felony second-degree murder. The suspect entered his plea on Friday the state filed amended information. The suspect was charged with the lesser murder charge and felony of armed criminal action. The victim, the suspect was accused of shooting, was identified as John Fowler. The murder took place on February 1, 2015. The victim was found dead on a county road near the private campground of the Heaven’s Hope Campground in the Hiram, Missouri, area. The suspect was involved in a in an ongoing altercation with the victim. The suspect later admitted to three other people that he had killed him.
