Three More Suspects Charged In Shooting of Cop

Three additional suspects have been identified in the shooting of a police officer in Carbondale Illinois. The suspects were identified as Xavier Lewis, Xavier McCray and Matthew Dylan Manley. The three men were accused of coming to the Carbondale area along with Kansas man Alex Karcher. The suspects were in the area to collect drug debt in the summer of 2016. Two Carbondale policemen chased after a car on July 31, 2018. Prosecutors say, there were multiple instances of shots fired in Carbondale on July 30 and July 31, 2016 involving Karcher, Lewis, McCray, Manley and others previously convicted in a marijuana drug ring. Two local officers pursued a vehicle following one incident and prosecutors believe Lewis and McCray were in the vehicle when Karcher shot at one of the officers causing him to lose one of his eyes and causing him to lose vision in the other. Karcher Pleaded guily in November just before the other suspects were charged. He was sentenced to 27 years in prision. The three suspects are due in court on  May 20, 2019
