Man Sentenced for Firing into Crowd

A Bellville Illinois man was given an 8 year prison sentence after he was accused of firing shots into a crowd in Carbondale. The man was identified as 30 year-old Jeremy I. Spivey. He was given the sentence on Thursday in Jackson County Court. The incident occurred on October 21, 2017. The suspect fired several shots near a business located on the 200 block of West Main Street. A local police officer, who was on foot patrol fired in return hitting the suspect twice. Spivey was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale then later transferred to a St. Louis hospital. Police say, Spivey got into an argument with another man inside a vehicle the man then pulled out a gun and fired shots at him. The vehicle then took off. The handgun was discovered at the scene.
