The Cape Girardeau Fire Department was dispatched to the 900 block of Bellevue Street near Houck Stadium. They received the call at 7:26.p.m. Thursday evening. When firemen arrived on the scene they discovered smoke all through the apartment. Firefighters were able to contain the smoke quickly. One male victim was found to be unresponsive in the back bedroom. He regained consciousness. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. There is no word on the victim’s condition yet. The fire was contained to one bedroom after 5 minutes but the building suffered fire and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the fire is not considered to be suspicious. Fireman say there were no working smoke detectors in the building.
