Southern Illinois University reported lower enrollment this semester than last spring semester. The university saw an 8.8 percent decrease in enrollment between Spring 2017 and Spring 2018. 13,350 students are attending the university as compared to 14,640 last year. The university’s chancellor Carlo Montemagno says the decrease was expected as new students don’t usually enroll in the spring semester and many students graduated in December. The university saw a 9 percent decrease in enrollment in Fall 2017 semester. Montemagno says the university is working on new initiatives that will help increase enrollment and retention.
