Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis is running for re-election. Davis became famous after spending five days in jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples. Davis refused to obey a judge’s order to issue the licenses in 2015 after the Supreme Court struck down laws that prohibited same-sex marriage. State law now keeps clerks’ names off of marriage licenses. Davis will be running against four democrats, including David Ermold, one of the gay men Davis refused to issue a marriage license to.
