Missouri’s education commissioner is out following a new appointment to the board of education by Governor Eric Greitens. Last week, Greitens removed one of his appointees who said they would not vote to remove commissioner Margie Vandeven in an effort to remove her from her position. That vote still failed. The appointment of Raytown resident Eric Teeman announced Friday afternoon made the 5-3 vote to remove Vandeven possible. Greitens said in a press release Vandeven’s removal was a win for education in Missouri, but he is facing backlash from educators and state democratic leaders.
