Alexander County housing officials facing fraud charges

Former Alexander County, Illinois Housing Authority officials are facing a 125-penalty federal civil fraud complaint after allegedly using funds for personal use. U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced Tuesday former executive directors James Wilson and Martha Franklin are accused of using funds for personal travel and gifts and then submitting false documentation about spending sometimes double charging the housing authority for personal use. Earlier this year, HUD announced the closure of two housing complexes in Cairo, Illinois, displacing 200 families.
