Move to remove MO Dept. of Education commissioner fails by one vote

Missouri’s State of Board Education commissioner has avoided firing after a vote for her removal failed by one vote. The board met Tuesday to vote on whether or not to dismiss Margie Vandeven from her position, a movement favored by Governor Eric Greitens.

Greitens removed his appointee John “Tim” Sumners after he said he would “no” on removing Vandeven. It was believed his support would hinder firing Vandeven, but the vote failed anyways.
