Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner signed a tax credit to help out property owners affected by July’s floods. The credit of up to $750 applies to properties in 18 counties including Alexander, Union and Jackson. Properties included primary residence and land owned by small businesses that are not rental or leased can qualify for the credit if township assessors issue eligibility certificates for property owners. Assessors must certify to the Illinois Department of Tax Revenue of flood damaged properties. Illinois has approximately $4.6 million in flood damage after heavy rainfall in July.
