Missouri Representative Kathryn Swan announced the state task force on dyslexia’s recommendations for screenings Wednesday. The task force suggested screening children between kindergarten and third grade for dyslexia and other related disorders beginning the 2018-2019 school year. Students who have not been screened but have been labeled as “struggling” should also be tested. The task force also recommended two hours of in-service training for assessing reading difficulties. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will recommend the process for screenings.
