An activist working on legislation to protect victims of sexual assault accused an Illinois senator of harassment Tuesday. Denise Rotheimer has been working to pass legislation in regards to sexual assault for years and said that in 2016, she was harassed by Senator Ira Silverstein while he was sponsoring one her bills. Rotheimer claimed Silverstein harassed her via Facebook and phone and at one point killed her bill because she had a boyfriend. She said once she told him she did not have a boyfriend, the bill was brought back to life. Silverstein apologized for making Rotheimer feel uncomfortable and will wait for review from an ethics committee before saying anything else. The bill Rotheimer was introducing would require all lawmakers, staff and lobbyists to complete annual sexual harassment training.
