MO owes $26.3 mill to blind Missourians

The state of Missouri owes $26.3 million to more than 3000 blind people in the state says a Cole County Circuit court judge. According to a lawsuit brought forward in 2006 by the Missouri Council for the Blind, the state of Missouri underpaid people who benefit from the Department of Social Services’ blind pension fund.  The lawsuit says money from that fund was used for other things. The fund currently pays 3,000 blind Missourians $728 per month. Attorney General Josh Hawley’s office has until November 9 to respond to the verdict. The state will owe 9 percent interest for year people go unpaid.
