MO prisoner to be executed may be innocent lawyers say

A Missouri prisoner who scheduled for execution Tuesday may be innocent, according to his lawyers. Marcellus Williams is scheduled for execution Tuesday after the 1998 robbery and murder of a former St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter. Williams’ attorney says new evidence may prove he’s innocent. A DNA test performed on the murder weapon in December does not match the DNA of Williams, but of an unknown man. William’s attorneys have appealed to the United States Supreme Court for a new hearing or to commute his sentence. They have also requested clemency from Governor Eric Greitens. The execution is expected to move forward.
