IL lawmakers deliberate school funding

Illinois lawmakers are meeting this week to hammer out a school funding plan. Governor Bruce Rauner vetoed the initial funding plan saying it benefits Chicago schools while hindering others. Some lawmakers say they will take Rauner’s amendatory veto into consideration when rewriting the bill. If they decide not to pass the rewrite, the House has until August 29 to override the veto on the original bill. The state currently has no way to provide funding for schools with the first day of classes approaching.
