Kentucky governor against removal of Confederate memorials

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear says he disagrees with the removal of Confederate statues. Following a rally of white supremacists over the weekend that turned deadly, cities across the South have made efforts to remove Confederate memorials. Beshear says removing the symbols is a “sanitization of history” and will “encourage people to pretend it didn’t happen.” In 2015, Beshear said he supported the removal of the Jefferson Davis statue housed in the Kentucky capital building’s rotunda.
