A new feature on buses is expected to ensure Poplar Bluff kids get home when expected.
All Poplar Bluff school buses now come equipped with a Child Check Deactivation switch. The switch, situated at the back of the bus, is automatically activated every day and requires bus drivers to walk to the back of the bus to turn it off. If they fail to hit the switch, the bus lets them know by honking and flashing its lights.
The district hopes that requiring bus drivers to walk from one end of the bus to the other will make sure children are not left on the bus if they fall asleep.
