Missouri Governor Eric Greitens signed a bill Thursday that would protect foster care children and children’s museums.
The bill, Senate Bill 572, established a Foster System Bill of Rights that lawmakers say will bring accountability to the foster system and protect children from traffickers.
The bill included a measure proposed by Cape Girardeau representative Kathy Swan that would prohibit sex offenders from being within 500 feet of a children’s museum. Children’s museums were not previously included in sex offenders mandates meaning police had not authority to remove them from the premises.
Swan said the measure was necessary after an incident at the Cape Girardeau Discover Playhouse last year.
