Missouri AG suing three major pharmaceutical companies

Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley filed a lawsuit against three major pharmaceutical companies yesterday. The suit claims Purdue Pharmaceutical, Endo Pharmaceuticals and Jansen Pharmaceuticals “fraudulently misrepresented” the risks posed by opioid drugs they manufacture and sell. The suit is asking for millions of dollars in damages and civil penalties. Hawley says the companies helped contributed to the state’s opioid epidemic with fake research and fraudulent advertising. In 2015, 30,000 were hospitalized and another 500 were killed from opioid related abuse. The rate of opioid addiction in Missouri is 160% above the national average, according to Hawley. The suit is one of the largest in Missouri history.
