New Court House Nearing completion in Cape Girardeau County

The new Cape Girardeau County Courthouse is still slated to open in April of next year with the third floor close to being finished. City officials say the top floor of the building is “moving right along,” with walls being painted and floors starting to be finished. In addition the furniture for a single court room on the floor is finished and will be shipped within a month’s time. Officials say the furniture will be shipped once there are two full courtroom sets completed. Additional parts of the project have also come along, such as the county approving the buying of equipment for security purposes for the courthouse entryway that costs$50,230.  At the beginning of last month county officials gave their approval to a change order with Penzel Construction for more rock excavation and to put in more lighting in the northern parking lot. Officials said the changes have not added any time to the construction schedule
