Cape Girardeau Officials Are Wanting to Do Away With Ditches on West end Boulevard

Cape Girardeau City officials are wanting to go away with the ditches. City officials are planning to replace drainage ditches that go around West end Boulevard. Along with this project city officials are making plans to redo the roadway from Rose Street to Burlington. City officials say that engineering the storm water improvements took longer than we expected. Officials also say, The storm water work has been a lot more complicated. They say this is why the long anticipated project is still not construction ready. City officials say, they are working to get rid of those ditches as much as possible. Officials also, say, some areas will have to remain , but where they can they are going to actually put inlets and pipes and pipe the water instead of having open ditches. The project costs a total of $2.5 million and will consist of Street reconstruction and the addition of a curb, gutter, and sidewalks. Officials say, to curb the street to try to get rid of the ditches to put the sidewalk in they are going to have to do a lot of storm water work. Officials are also currently trying to get all the needed construction assessments. Officials say, it could be early next year before a contract is awarded and construction can begin.
