Man Given Life Sentence for Parents Murder Could Get Sentence Reduced

Southern Illinois man Mark Gibbs has spent the past two and a half decades in prison for killing his parents back in 1992 in the family’s home. He was given a life sentence, but now he could have his sentence shortened because of a 2012 ruling by the Supreme Court, which states life sentences for minors without the chance of parole, are considered unconstitutional. He is slated to have a new hearing on Friday, August 16, 2019 Back in 2012 the Supreme Court found that this type of punishment is against the eighth amendment against cruel and unusual punishment.
