A group of area businessmen convened at the first of the month with aim of addressing the economic impact of the Chester Bridge. MODOT officials rated the bridge that is close to 80 years old as having multiple poor structure conditions. A study, which was completed last year, proposed a new plan for new bridge design. The new bridge would be constructed about 75 feet up the river from the current bridges location. The new bridge would allow a new route going from Highway 51 to the Horse Island Chute and raising the bridge over the levee.
